What is Diabetic Retinopathy?

Diabetic retinopathy is an eye disease caused by high blood sugar damaging the tiny blood vessels in the retina (the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye). If left untreated, it can lead to permanent vision loss.

❓ Why does it happen?

•High blood sugar over time weakens and damages the retinal blood vessels.

•The damaged vessels may leak fluid or blood, causing swelling and blurred vision.

•In advanced stages, abnormal new blood vessels can grow and further threaten vision.

✅ Normal Eye: Healthy retina, clear blood vessels, clear vision.

⚠️ Diabetic Retinopathy: Damaged blood vessels, bleeding or fluid leakage, blurred vision, risk of vision loss.
